Imported into England by Berry Bros. in 1930
Berry Bros., England´s oldest wine merchant (since 1698), was very active during the 1920s and 1930s in exploring hidden treasures in the cellars of the Tokaji region, which were formerly owned by famous noble families. Esterházy is a Hungarian noble family with origins in the Middle Ages. During the history of the Habsburg empire, the Esterházys were consistently loyal to the Habsburg rulers. They received the title of count in 1626. The family ultimately became the largest landowners in the Habsburg Empire, and their income sometimes exceeded that of the Emperor. Count Gyula Esterházy of Galanta, son of Congressman István Esterházy, was born on 22 October 1868 in Bratislava. He never married, and died in action during WWI on 6 June 1916 in Czernowitz on the Russian frontier.
