Elemér Edmund Lónyay Count (Prince after 1917) of Nagy-Lónya and Vásáros-Namény, born in 1863 at the Bodrog-Olaszi Castle, was a Hungarian nobleman. In 1886 he was appointed Legation Council, 1889 Royal Chamberlain. In 1895 he accompanied the Archduke Ludwig Viktor as a member of the imperial legation for the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II to St. Petersburg. In 1900, Elemér married Archduchess Stephanie, the widow of the Austrian Crown Prince Rudolf. After Rudolf's death, Stephanie had only played a very minor role at the Vienna court; she felt set back and despised by the imperial family. The unethical marriage with Elemér had the loss of her rank as Archduchess, the exclusion from the Austrian Court and the break with her father, King Leopold II of Belgium. The couple spent the summers usually in Bodrog-Olaszi in the Tokaj region. In 1945, the Prince and his wife had to flee before the Red Army and found refuge in the Benedictine Abbey of Pannonhalma, where Princess Stephanie died on 23 August 1945. The Prince died in Budapest almost a year later.
