In early 2017 the Royal Tokaji Co. winemaking team went into the cellars to properly assess all of their Aszú wines from 1990-1999, their First Decade. Every single bottle has been opened and tasted. Every perfect bottle was saved and overall approximately 15% of the bottles were rejected. Each wine was then rebottled at the winery under new corks. Provenance is unquestionable, the wines having never left the Royal Tokaji cellars. Every wine has been tasted and approved by their winemaker and General Manager.

This Collection contains seven "First Decade" Aszús made by Royal Tokaji:

1990 BETSEK 5 puttonyos
alcohol content: 12,5 % vol
residual sugar content: 140 g/l
acidity: 9,35 g/l
"A bright orange-gold colour with a complex nose of smoke, honey, dates and dried apricots. It shows moderate concentration, but the acidity is somewhat jagged and the palate lacks some weight and succulence. A pretty, rather than imposing, wine with a sleek aftertaste of mandarins and barley sugar. It has extract and a surprisingly dry finish, with good length. A great success for such an early stab at authentic Tokaji. 92 points."
Stephen Brook, Decanter

1990 BIRSALMÁS 5 puttonyos
alcohol content: 11,5 % vol
residual sugar content: 183 g/l
acidity: 9,5 g/l
"A magnificent First Growth vineyard like Birsalmas competes with the likes of Yquem and the 1990 can go head to head with the best vintages of any top Sauternes and come out on top. Rich apricot, lemongrass lychee and wilted wild flowers dominate the mature nose. Magnificent."
Cru World Wine

1991 BETSEK 5 puttonyos
alcohol content: 12,5 % vol
residual sugar content: 146 g/l
acidity: 9,2 g/l
"This is like fine silk on the palate, impeccably balanced, with a finely woven panoply of melon pâte de fruit, exotic cardamom, cumin, passion fruit coulis, toasted almond and crushed pine needle notes. Long and creamy on the mouthwatering finish."
Cru World Wine

1991 BIRSALMÁS 5 puttonyos
alcohol content: 11,5 % vol
residual sugar content: 185,3 g/l
acidity: 9,4 g/l
"A nice marriage of spice and dried fruit flavors give depth. Shows good concentration, and tastes of raisins, dried apricots and honey ..."
Wine Spectator (1996)

1991 NYULÁSZÓ 5 puttonyos
alcohol content: 11 % vol
residual sugar content: 194,4 g/l
acidity: 9,35 g/l
"A bright orange-gold colour with a complex nose of smoke, honey, dates and dried apricots. It shows moderate concentration, but the acidity is somewhat jagged and the palate lacks some weight and succulence. A pretty, rather than imposing, wine with a sleek aftertaste of mandarins and barley sugar. It has extract and a surprisingly dry finish, with good length. A great success for such an early stab at authentic Tokaji. 93 points."
Stephen Brook, Decanter

1991 SZT.TAMÁS 5 puttonyos
alcohol content: 10,5 % vol
residual sugar content: 206,4 g/l
acidity: 9,7 g/l
"Concentrated and quite sweet, this rich white offers apricot, dried pineapple and honey flavors, with enough acidity to maintain freshness. A serious meditation wine. 90 points."
Wine Spectator (1996)

1992 BETSEK 5 puttonyos
alcohol content: 11 % vol
residual sugar content: 176 g/l
acidity: 9,3 g/l
"A deep, oaky brown colour.
Lovely, old honey nose, like opening up an old pack of dried apricots. Rich and sweet. Lots of almost savage acidity on the finish. 93 points."
